Make your own USB Microphone

Do you need a simple portable solution for recording your podcasts and already have a decent microphone? Then I think you’ll find this product very interesting. CEntrance have made a small audio interface called MicPort Pro. It plugs straight into your microphone’s XLR output. Then you connect it to your computer using the included USB cable.

If you want to use more than one MicPort and Windows you might need to download the driver from here. If you are using a mac and Apple OS X you might find this tutorial useful. The audio interface has switchable 48V Phantom power, microphone preamp with adjustable input gain, a headphone output with adjustable level and direct monitoring. It has 24bit A/D and records up to 96kHz in software that supports this.

Centrance MicPort Pro is available for purchase at Sound Devices in Sydney.
